Extension knowledge needs of Farmers in cultivating reclaimed lands in Beheira Governorate

This research aimed to identify characteristics of the respondents to determine both knowledgeneeds levels of the respondents concerning the technical recommendations for cultivating reclaimedlands, study relationship between the degree of the respondents' knowledge need regarding the technical recommendations for cultivating reclaimed lands as a dependent variable and their studied characteristics as independent variables.  also, to identify the independent variables that most contribute to explaining the degree of variation in the respondents' knowledge degreesregarding the technical recommendations for cultivating reclaimed lands, as well as to identify the problems facing the respondents in implementing these recommendations. Data were conducted on a systematic random sample of 298 respondents, representing 10% of the total population. The research was carried out in the two selected study villages, namely Kafr Al-Zeyadah,and, ManshiyetTharwat, in the districts of KomHammada,and, Abu Al-Mattamir, respectively. Data were collected by using a personal interview questionnaireduring August 2023. Frequencies, percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s simple correlation coefficient, correlation coefficient, Tables, and the multiple correlation and regression analysis (step-wise) were usedtoanalyzethe data andpresentthe results.
The most important results were as follows:
1 44% -of the respondents have a moderate knowledge need concerning the technical recommendations for cultivating reclaimed lands, 40.9% of them have a high knowledge need, while 15.1% of them came in the low knowledge need category.
2- 42.6% of the respondents' implementation level was average concerning the technical recommendations for cultivating reclaimed lands, 31.2% of them their implementation level of these recommendations was low, and 26.2% of them had a high level of implementation.
3 - Seven characteristics of the respondents as independent variables, contributed significantly to explain 52.2% of the variance in the degree of respondents' knowledge need of the technical recommendations for cultivating reclaimed lands as a dependent variable, as follows: satisfaction degree about the return from cultivating reclaimed land (23.3%),  number of years of respondent education (11.6%), degree of achievement motivation (7.3%), length of experience in cultivating reclaimed land (3.9%),  size of holding of reclaimed lands  (3.3%),  respondent age (2.1%), and number of family members working in cultivating reclaimed land (1%).
4 -  the most important problems facing the respondents in implementing the technical agricultural recommendations for cultivating reclaimed lands were: some farmers’ adherence to agricultural methods and customs followed in the old traditional lands (81.5%), farmers’ lack of experience in cultivating reclaimed lands (79.9%), high prices of production inputs on reclaimed lands (77.9%), farmers’ awareness lack of using balanced fertilizers appropriate to the type of soil and crops grown (77.2%), farmers’ lack of interest in cleanliness of organic materials added to reclaimed lands (76.2%), weak extension role in reclaimed lands (75.5%).
