Reasons for students' reluctance to specialize in agricultural extension of the Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University

The research aims to identify the reasons for the reluctance of students to enroll in the agricultural extension specialization at the Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University.
through: identifying the sources of information for the students researched for different specializations, and identifying what the researched students heard about economic and social programmes, as well as the specialization of the agricultural extension and determining the degree of preference. Agricultural extension identify from the point of view of the respondents, and to identify the reasons for reluctance from the agricultural extension , and to identify their proposals to increase the demand for this specialization from their point of view
 The research included all third-level students at the Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University during the academic year 2021/2022 AD, whose number is 336 students, and the research sample reached 90 respondents, or 27% from the overall total. The data was collected by designing an electronic questionnaire form that was sent to all the students surveyed during the months of February and March of 2022 AD. Frequencies and percentages were used to present and analyze the data.
The most important results were:
- About two-thirds of the respondents 64.4% stated that faculty members were the source they used permanently to obtain information about the college's majors.
 - The agricultural social and economic sciences program comes in the last rank in terms of preference among the seven study programs in the college from the point of view of nearly a third of the respondents 32.2%.
 - Almost two-fifths of the respondents 37.5% stated that the agricultural extension specialization comes in the third place in terms of preference among the sub-disciplines of the agricultural social and economic sciences program.
- The most important reason for reluctance to join the specialty is the lack of job opportunities for graduates of the agricultural extension specialization.
 - More than three-quarters of the respondents 77.8% mentioned that the most important reasons that motivate them to join the agricultural extension specialization is their desire to be appointed in the department.
 - The most important proposals to increase the demand for enrollment in the specialization are to introduce students to fields and job opportunities after graduation, which were 25.6%.
